OFFICIAL - 5.0.2.2 Update Notes - Umbrella's Release!

UPDATE - June 10th 2022

  • Blitz & Glamour now has the correct premium price in the Tributes Tab of the Cabinet of Curiosities. (For real this time)

  • Fixed some text issues in Spanish and German.

Also, we have been investigating reports of players not being able to access the Store and now have some information about it.

Firstly, the Google Play Store and Apple App Store have been disabled in Russia. As the Skullgirls Store uses these two systems to operate, this also means the Store in Skullgirls will not work if you are in Russia.

If you are NOT from Russia, but are still unable to access the Store please do the following:

1) Make sure you have a valid login on your account. (Open the Options menu and check the Account page).
2) Uninstall Skullgirls Mobile.
3) Reinstall Skullgirls Mobile.
4) Check the Store to see if it is available.

If you are still having issues with the Store, please contact us here: https://skullgirlsmobile.com/contact/

UPDATE - May 24th 2022

5.0.2 just released and it comes with a relatively small set of updates and bug fixes. Read on for the full details!

NEW FIGHTERS:

Check them out in action here:

Beowulf - Fan Favorite - Robo-Fortune - Number Cruncher

These are new, extremely rare Fighters that can only be obtained through giveaways and in-person events. These Fighters are intended to be difficult to obtain, and are designed as special show pieces if you're lucky enough to grab one.

We already run regular developer giveaways on Twitch where you can get your hands on these, but we plan on giving MANY more opportunities in the near future. Keep an eye on our social pages for more information on that front. (Twitter - Facebook - Instagram)

Similarly we plan on supporting many more in-person events (not just in the US) where international players will have their chance to pick these up.

Additionally, as part of the 5th Anniversary Celebration we'll be giving out a Fan Favorite to EVERY player in the near future. Keep an eye out for more news about that soon!

UMBRELLA:

  • Fixed an issue where Umbrella's Level 3 Blockbuster (BB3) might miss if used on an opponent that was recently tagged out.

  • Fixed an issue where Umbrella's Character Ability button would have the incorrect icon after she is forced to tag in.

  • Fixed an issue where Umbrella's Character Ability button would display Big Band's arm at the start of Versus matches.

  • Fixed an issue where the final hit of Umbrella's air combo could be canceled with Specials.

  • Fixed an issue where bubbles can interfere with Umbrella's BB3.

  • Fixed an issue where Projection Lens can block BB3s.

  • Added a second enemy to the boss node in Umbrella's Expert Daily Event.

MISC:

  • Fixed some issues where Offers text was incorrectly formatted in several languages.

  • Fixed some issues where the Store would not display any items.

  • Updated the progress bar in Daily Ops to more accurately display increments of 5 Egret Points.

  • Daily Ops notification badges will no longer appear on Mission Control if you have already filled the Daily Ops meter to 100%

  • Fixed an issue where Canopy Coin and Theonite values could overlap on popup windows.

  • Vector Protector and Blitz & Glamour now have the correct premium price in the Tributes Tab of the Cabinet of Curiosities.

  • Fixed an issue where some Fighters could display as black shapes with no textures.

  • Rift Battle Seasons will now start two hours after the previous season ends.

-------------------------------------

UPDATE - May 4th 2022

We just released a small update that fixes a few Umbrella centric issues and also an adjustment to event reward delivery:

  • To increase server stability, we have made some adjustments to how our rewards are processed at the end of events. There will now be a two hour processing period after each Prize Fight and Rift Battle Season has completed before reward mail will begin to be sent out.

  • Fixed an issue where Umbrella would not take Miasma damage.

  • Fixed an issue where Tongue Twister would not grab opponents with Unflinching.

  • Fixed an issue where Umbrella was immune to Double's Catellite Lives after being forcefully tagged in.

  • Fixed an issue where Umbrellas jumping combo (also known as a J3) would deal different numbers of hits depending on when you input it.

  • Fixed an issue where using Acid Reflux, then Feeding Time (BB3) would cause a soft-lock.

  • Fixed an issue where Umbrella's Character Ability and Bobblin' Bubble could not be used if either of them had a bubble active.

ORIGINAL - April 27th 2022

Hey everyone,

It’s been a long journey, but Umbrella (and Hungern!) are finally here! We are releasing 5.0 TODAY, so keep an eye on our social media (Twitter: @sgmobile) to keep informed of any developments!

Wait! TODAY?! But we haven’t finished showing trailers for Umbrella yet!

That is correct! We’re doing things a bit differently this release - Umbrella was just too excited to keep contained even a week longer and so some of her trailers will drop after she is already available and playable!

When 5.0 does release there will be an in-game mail waiting for every player with a free Peckish Premiere Relic for a chance at getting Umbrella right away! (A Peckish Premiere Relic is just like a standard Premiere Relic, but with 2x Odds of getting an Umbrella Fighter - more on those down below!)

Now then, on to the update notes!

NEW CHARACTER - UMBRELLA (AND HUNGERN!)

The youngest princess of the Canopy Kingdom, Umbrella is rarely seen outside the halls of the royal palace in Canopolis. She has grown up sheltered, with her only true friend being a family heirloom: the Living Weapon Hungern. Together, they fight evil and kick butt in the name of justice, just like Umbrella’s big sister: Parasoul! Or at least they would if Parasoul would let them out of the palace!

The rise of a new Skullgirl may just give Umbrella the adventure she wants. But, when she finds out the truths about herself and her family, will she wish she had stayed home?

GAMEPLAY OVERVIEW

For such a pint-sized princess, Umbrella is packed with unique flavor and gameplay mechanics. She excels at grappler and trap-based gameplay, rewarding players with long, damaging combos if they can plan ahead and make careful use of her bubbles, puddles, and Hungern’s monstrous appetite. Although she has many offensive options, Umbrella is very slow on her feet. Dashing around willy-nilly will be dangerous, so putting careful thought into all of her movement options is key to Umbrella mastery.

CHARACTER ABILITY - HUNGERN'S HUNGER

Umbrella's Character Ability (CA) - HUNGERN'S HUNGER - is indicated by a big circular button on the left side of the screen with Hungern at the center. During a fight, the Hunger Meter surrounding this button will drain at a steady rate while Umbrella is the active fighter.

Based on how full the meter is, there are three Hunger states that Hungern can occupy: SATIATED, RAVENOUS and OVERSTUFFED. In addition to the drain over time, moves involving eating and chewing will fill the meter towards Overstuffed, while those involving spitting and bubbles will decrease it, towards Ravenous.

Regardless of what Special Moves and Blockbusters you equip, you can always manipulate the Hunger Meter.

To fill the meter (and move it towards Overstuffed) you can use her regular throw.
To empty the meter (and move it towards Ravenous) you can tap the Hunger Meter to fire a bubble projectile.

SATIATED is the default state, and offers no particular benefits.

RAVENOUS makes Umbrella's basic attacks faster, as well as giving her a unique, faster dash attack.

OVERSTUFFED makes Umbrella's basic attacks deal more damage, as well as giving her a wall bounce on her knockback attack.

In addition to the effects listed above, some Special Moves, Blockbusters and Signature Abilities will also be impacted by Hungern's current Hunger state. Experiment to figure out which state best suits your playstyle!

For easy reference, here’s a list of how her different moves get affected by Hunger states:

Spoiler: MOVES AFFECTED BY HUNGER STATES

PUDDLES

Those rain boots aren’t just for show! Umbrella also comes with a second unique mechanic: several of her Bubble based attacks will leave large puddles on the stage. These do nothing if you or the opponent walk on them, but if you can knock an opponent into the puddle they’ll bounce with a big splash. This gives you an opportunity to continue your combos where normally the opponent would simply recover.

You can see some good examples of how puddles work in Tidal Traveler’s trailer.

Spoiler: TIDAL TRAVELER TRAILER

MARQUEE ABILITY - JAWS OF DEFEAT

Spoiler: JAWS OF DEFEAT

Umbrella comes with two very distinct Marquee Abilities (MA) - one rewards aggressive and offensive gameplay and the other will help you out in a pinch if you’re on the defensive.

PRESTIGE ABILITY - GUT REACTION

Spoiler: GUT REACTION

Umbrella’s Prestige Ability (PA) will reward players who can counter-hit reliably. This ability is a great way to keep your HP topped up, and to make the opponent regret getting buffs!

When you successfully counter-hit an opponent, they will flash red and a little broken heart will appear over their head. The easiest way to get a counter-hit is to block, then wait for your opponent to attack. When they finish their Ground Tap Combo (L5) with a Launcher or a Trip Attack, they will be wide open for you to counter attack!

Mastering this Block and Punish gameplay is very important in Skullgirls Mobile, but it’s especially rewarding with a Prestiged Umbrella!

NEW UMBRELLA FIGHTERS

11 new Umbrella Fighters will be available in 5.0! We’ve started revealing them already, but a few more trailers will drop after the update has been released. Here’s a sneak peek at the full set:

You can check out the trailers for each revealed Fighter here (We'll update the links here with trailers as they are posted on our socials!):

Bronze: Salty - Fresh Heir

Silver: Rose-Tinted - Puddle Pirate - Candy Crusher - Wild Child

Gold: Tidal Traveler - Space Case - Wunderkind

Diamond: Raining Champ - Eager Deceiver

Which ones do you have your sights set on?

COMPETITIVE UMBRELLA FIGHTER

Umbrella will also be added to COMPETITIVE VERSUS when 5.0 launches. However, you can only use Umbrella if you have at least one Umbrella Fighter in your collection.

HOW DO I GET UMBRELLA?

As mentioned in our OFFICIAL: Umbrella Release Details & Relic Availability thread, Umbrella’s availability will be limited at launch. To summarize the thread linked:

  • Umbrella WILL be available with 2x odds in special Peckish Premiere Relics. These Relics will be available for 150 Theonite in the Relic Store for the entire duration of the 5.0 release.

  • Peckish Premiere Relics WILL be available in the Cabinet of Curiosities.

  • Hangry Relics (Umbrella’s Character Relic which only contains Umbrella Fighters) WILL be available via a variety of Offers after 5.0 launches.

  • Hangry Relics WILL be added to all Fighter Variety Pack Offers after 5.0 launches. As with Annie, Umbrella's Prize Fight and Umbrella's Character Relic WILL NOT be scheduled until 5.1.

  • Hangry Relics (and Umbrella Fighters) WILL NOT be available in the Cabinet of Curiosities when 5.0 launches.

  • Umbrella Special Moves, Blockbusters and Skill Points WILL be available in the Cabinet of Curiosities.

  • Umbrella Special Moves and Blockbusters WILL NOT be available in all standard Move Relics until 5.1.

  • Umbrella WILL NOT be available in Standard Relics at launch in 5.0. This includes Premiere, Jackpot, Elemental, Silver/Gold/Diamond, and many other Relics.

  • If you are saving Relics for Umbrella, you WILL NOT be able to acquire her from those Relics in 5.0. If you still wish to save your current Relics for Umbrella Fighters, she will be added to Standard Relics in 5.1.

UMBRELLA DAILY EVENT

One of your best bets for finding materials for upgrading your Umbrella Fighters is keeping an eye on the Cabinet of Curiosities, however you can also check out Umbrella’s Daily Event every Saturday if you want to stock up on more Umbrella Moves and Skill Points!

UMBRELLA PRIZE FIGHT

As a reminder, Umbrella’s Prize Fight WILL NOT be available in 5.0. This event will be available after 5.1 launches. When this Prize Fight is available in 5.1, Umbrella’s Relic (the Hangry Relic) will also be available in the Relic store for Theonite.

NEW MODIFIER

Umbrella comes with a brand new DEBUFF! Though, technically, this one is more of a Hungern contribution:

SLIME

Many of Umbrella’s Specials and Signature Abilities can inflict Slime. This goopy modifier will deal 4% damage every time the opponent gains a buff. It doesn’t matter how they get the buff - Signature Ability, Special Move, Stage Modifier, etc, if they get a buff, they’re going to lose 4% of their lifebar.

Fighters that rely on gaining many buffs throughout matches will have to be wary of getting Slimed - I’m looking at you, Resonant Evil!

NEW CATALYST - RHYTHM AND OOZE

Any princess worth their salt will of course have a unique Rift Battles Catalyst that only affects Umbrella Fighters:

Spoiler: RHYTHM AND OOZE

Keep an eye out for this in the Cabinet of Curiosities Treasures tab and Rift Relics!

NEW STAGE - THE BOARDWALK

The Boardwalk is open for business! The denizens of New Meridian are soaking up the sun on this seaside promenade, taking in the sights, sounds and occasional all-out brawl.

As connoisseurs of all things ice cream, Umbrella and Hungern can often be found hanging around here - even when they’re not actually fighting anyone!

You can find this stage as Umbrella’s home stage on her character details screen, her Daily Event fights, and in any event that uses random stages.

DAILY OPS

The first thing you are greeted with when opening Skullgirls Mobile is the Daily Missions page.
This is where you earn Theonite for completing tasks like “Win 20 Fights with a Gold Character” and the much loved/hated “Win 1 fight(s) VS a team with 4x your team’s score”.

As of 5.0, Daily Missions are GONE!

In their place is Daily Ops - the new hub for getting your free daily Theonite and Canopy Coins!
Here’s what it looks like:

Every day you’ll be presented with the same set of 12 Missions. Each of these are much smaller in scope than the older Daily Missions tasks and can be completed by doing the everyday tasks you were probably already doing anyway.

Each Mission has three pieces of information:

  • How many Egret Points the Mission is worth.

  • How to complete the Mission.

  • A ‘GO NOW!’ button that will bring you to the part of the game where you can complete the Mission.

Wait, Egret Points? What are those?

At the top of the Daily Ops page you’ll see a progress bar with several Egret Supply Crates on it. As you earn Egrets Points, the progress bar will fill up and those Crates will unlock. These Crates contain a mix of Canopy Coins and Theonite. There are 5 Crates which refresh each day. The final reward unlocks at 100 Egret Points.

Here’s the full list of rewards:

  • 20 EP - 2,000 Canopy Coins

  • 40 EP - 3,000 Canopy Coins

  • 60 EP - 10 Theonite

  • 80 EP - 5,000 Canopy Coins

  • 100 EP - 40 Theonite

You don’t need to complete every available Daily Ops Mission to earn 100 Egret Points, so you can choose whatever Missions you like during your usual Skullgirls Mobile play session and still get full rewards.

You don’t get any extra rewards for completing more than 100 Egret Points worth of Missions each day, but you’re welcome to do it anyway!

Here’s the full list of Missions:

  • Log in - 10 EP

  • Open a Relic - 20 EP

  • Open the Cabinet of Curiosities - 10 EP

  • Send a Gift - 15 EP

  • Level up a Move - 25 EP

  • Unlock a Skill Tree Node - 25 EP

  • Deploy a Fighter - 10 EP

  • Win a Story Mode Match - 15 EP

  • Win a Daily Event Match - 15 EP

  • Win a Prize Fight Match - 15 EP

  • Complete a Versus Mode Match - 20 EP (Note, you only need to complete a match - you don’t need to win!)

  • Complete a Rift Battle - 35 EP

Some modes in Skullgirls Mobile are unavailable until players reach specific levels. Missions that apply to those modes will be locked until the player has access to the associated mode.

You can also check your current Daily Ops progress from the main menu. You’ll notice a mini progress bar on the Mission Control button:

This Daily Ops overhaul has long been on our list of Quality of Life improvements we’ve wanted to tackle. This should be a lot smoother for players to earn reliable daily rewards without the clunkiness and random chance of the previous system.

This isn’t the only Daily system we have our sights on improving, so stay tuned for news about that later in the year!

  • Shadow Puppet's signature Ability will no longer activate if she's not the point character.

  • Fixed an issue with the 'O Holy Night' modifier that was not giving the correct duration of Final Stand.
